Renee...

I think it is hard to beleive people think Deaf and Blind issues are all same as deaf person.. It's actually different view...
Seattle Times wrote about Deaf and blind in several years ago. One D/B man angry at people for pulled him to guide to wheel chair. he want to be alone and familiar. It is his own decision. I sympathy these D/B people have hard time with hearing people made poor judgement.

Some lady gave me kids menu as brialle menu.. Sound funny? They think I am kids and vision problem. Strange.. Myself I have a two teenager daughter were with me. They stunned at waitress front of me.

Silly? I love Nicole's story. I feel the same.. but kind of different. It is kind difference that between vision impaired and deaf .. or Usher sydrome. Many people dont familiar about Usher Sydrome.

Myself, I am vision impairment it is unexplained for me to see .. Blurr
I have to wear reading RX all the time. or Large font so I don't have to wear rx glasses. Depend on.. My sidekick pager I have to switch the rx glasses. It is hard to read. I wish Sidekick pager need to change font. but othere beside is 711i is having a font.. Good to talk someone.

Back in 1980 when I was in a classroom at a community college on the first day of class the teacher noticed we had a sign language interpreter. His very first question was "Oh you read Braille?" Groan.......

Nicole,

I still dont understand why the hearing people knew nothing as about Braille as deaf is connect with blind. I know it is not true.. Kind of embrassed you and curious about it .. Not make sense to me, too.. you are not alone. I am little different than your case.. but your case is too confused.

One day ... In 1984 when my uncle and his brother. We are not related to them. but my dad's sister passed away I have been know my uncle's family very well. One day in Olympia, WA I had to stopped for lunch. Feel tired from trip to Marysville near Everett, WA.. by the way I was sat with my uncle who rasied me. All things Waitress asked everything is fine.. Need Menu.. Every say Yes please.. the waitress passed it to my uncle and his brother and his wife.. regular menu. One the worse thing!!! She gave me kids menu.. I said I am 24 yr old. I was mad .. I wore nice pump heel shoes and wore suit. That's most bizzarre.. No one see me as woman. My uncle burst laughed at me. I said "I am suing these lady!"
So far I have been recieved similiar after 1984.. when I have two daughter they were less 10 yr .. the waitress think my husband's three daughter. she gave me again. I said I am mother of teenager girl. I think it is nothing common.. but Braille is for only the person cannot see at all as legal blind.
It is most strange stories..

How dare? ... These lady are not brightly to understand. Braille is unquie poke .. Not make sense to me. Kind of dumbskulled!

Before than 1950's.. True story! .. One of my friend's father in law..he told me about One day, one deaf woman take a train to somewhere. All of passenger were in kind of full.. the deaf woman waiting for train move as departed and stared the window of view. The other next passenger talked to her .. she realized the lady did not turn around to her.. Not talk to her at all.. so, the lady tapped on her shoulder.. She say something to her.. The deaf woman signed to her.
Sorry, I cannot hear what ya talk about.. The lady was shocked and pulled the emergercy wire.. Then train brake and all of passenger must get out of the train. all of hearing passenger went in .. but they dont allow her to come in train because deaf is congtatious as pass germs.. she's difficult and no way to call relative by phone.

Too depression. I thought it is worse? "Compare that the worse braille?
I think the waitress is worsen and confused to you.

Alot of Congatious never passed anyone without germ or sick around while the deaf people cannot passed it .. Unless other diease with high fever with diease could be pass it. Old time is much parnoid being get a deaf by deaf people. Misunderstood about diease and deaf are difference.. That's depend

Quiet different story are many different story. Interesting?

Tell SG "Quit laugh at me..." ( SG is good friend mutal.. he is nice.. )
 Number 4

Hi Nicole!

I am really enjoying watching your vlog! I love your bedroom design! my favorite color is Blue! that's why my film company called Blue Apple Films www.blueapplefilms.com . My films are about "creative" sort of "The Wizard of Oz" you remind me Dorothy!

anyway speaking of waiter give you braille menu that's so weird! like other comments mentioned above, yes I agreed! they assumed all deaf and blind share the same assistance devices which make a lot of misunderstooding. It is our job to address the difference between "Deaf" "Deaf-Blind" "Blind".

I had worst case at the restaurant when the waiter found out we are "Deaf" she yelled and ask "is anybody know sign language?" the entire customers look at the waiter with "puzzles looking" then the manager was so embrarassing and asked the waiter to work on other table. Manager took our orders. LOL!

alright looking forward to see your stories in the coming days!

LOL Yes, it has happened to me once at Cracker Barrel restaurant. I was puzzled when they brought me the menu as thick as a big city telephone book. The size of it scared me, thinking I have to read it all day before pick out what I want to eat, but when I opened the menu, I was shocked that it was a braille menu and I burst out laughing. The waitress was so confused. I wrote down told the waitress I couldn't use it, It's for blind people, not for me. I went ahead wrote down what I want to eat. Hehe!
My partner is hearing, he told me that several people think I am profound handicap, sitting in wheel chair, retarded or stuffs like that. They would dropped their jaws when he told them I am driving or traveling alone, stuffs like that. He keep on telling them what's different with me is that I can't hear, that all. *sigh*

I am a hearing person currently learning ASL. I grew up learning nothing about Deaf culture until I took a sign language class last semester. Anyways, I never really placed Deaf people in the same category as Blind people. I always knew that Blind people had the braille but never connected it to Deaf people. It also makes me question why.

...my theory is, maybe because many Deaf and Blind schools share campuses or close to each other, such as the one in Fremont, CA. People start to think that they are exposed to similar teaching methods therefore they get everything completely mixed up...Just my input.
